not my Day today!

Post by Lars1974 »

hi all,

i noticed that my front tyre was still leaking air at the place where it was plugged repaired 2 weeks ago. therefore i decided to ride over to my local tyre guy again to get it fixed. about 2 miles into my ride i started feeling the bke wobbling a bit...shortly after i got a low pressure warning -7 PSI from my Tyre Pressure warning kit for the REAR tyre. - within a few second i got a second warning for the REAR tyres now it was down to only 6 PSI. by the time i pulled over safely and stopped it was down to 0 PSI! :(
i quickly put the bike on its centre stand and checked the rear tyre...it had some 2cm long metall plate stuck in it which has ripped the tyre apart...

so, i set out to get my front fixed (for free) and now need new REAR tyre!
not my best Day!

Oh well, i might try out some of the BT021 - anyone got any experience with them as i have always used Road Attacks so far...

one last question: will it be ok to put the bike on the centre stand and than use a front paddock stand to get both wheels off the ground and remove them?

thx Lars [/img]

Thats a gutser Lars. At least you didn't have it happen at speed eh.

Re the stands - you'll probably have to remove the back wheel before using the front stand I would guess cos anything more than a few mm up at the front will have the rear touching the ground - either that or put a piece of 4x2 under the centre stand.

Good luck

I'm running BT021s. I've always had 020s until now.

Ive done a couple of thousand miles now, and, well.. they are really nice.

They seem much better than 020s across overbanding, and other road irregularities, and feel slightly more compliant. Grip wise I havent had a single let go apart from on spillages of the dieselly stuff. They are totally stable at silly speeds on bumpy roads.

I'll definitely get again next time.

Hard luck with the tyres - at least you'll have plenty of grip for winter though.

Best to stick something under the rear diff to stop it rocking backwards too.

Cheers,

James

Everyone has their own preferences and its all been covered in previous threads ,but I find 021's better overall than Road attacks ( especially in wet conditions)though more expensive in this part of the world.

hi all,

finally got some new rubber on my wheels. i went for the BT021s this time...i will let you know how i get on with them...

the metall piece was still inside my tyre and look like it came from a builders knife!!!

anyway, tomorrow i will put the wheels back on the S and hopefully go for a ride and scrub them in!
cheers

Hi Doug,

i work for SmarTire - the company who makes them...
check out www.smartire.com
we only produced them for a few years qand we now not actively selling anymore. its a good product just we couldn't produce it cheap enough to get the number sold we required therefore we withdrew from that market.

i still have a few kits left for sale. of you want one drop me a pm.

thx Lars

Thanks Lars.

You have had an expensive week my friend in more ways than one!

Whoever said that motorcycling was an inexpensive and safe hobby. Like many others I have always found it empties my wallet far too quickly and gets your pulse racing when you don't want it to, in a buttock clenching way!!

Safe riding buddy!
