new TFT dash

Post by slparry »

Because I'm an IT and BMW geek, I've just been reading the new conformity docs for the new TFT screens coming to the GS's .... I knew they were having Bluetooth but they're also getting WiFi too ..... can't wait to see why?? Connecting to laptops to download journey records? Diagnostics?

So riders can surf the net while they ride, just like people in cars do.
God help us

I am guessing that either it's a free feature, with no use (yet). I.e. They fitted a module from another application that happens to have wifi, so unless someone thinks of a way to use it, it will be a redundant feature.

Or

Wifi is used for location tracking in some applicataions, so this will be to assist with advanced navigation and positioning features.

Won't be on French bikes then,
It'd be illegal there.

I'm thinking more of road closures - some truck sat navs I know of have this. Seem to work very well for overnight closures/temp closures

When the BMW Nav 5's are paired with a smartphone with Garmin's app on they will pull traffic info in using the 'phones data connection too
