Garmin Zumo 400

Hi all, I've just acquired a Garmin Zumo 400 and the ram mount to fit it to the 1150GS. For what I need, it'll be good enough, but when I fitted it to the bike, it came up saying voice command only active with the mount connected to 12v power rather than the battery........fair enough though I.
Now with the 12v connected to the mount, I still have no voice commands, therefore my question is..........does the Zumo 400 actually have an internal speaker or am I going to have to buy some additional kit?

Any advice would be appreciated

Don't think from memory it has an internal speaker. I used mine with earphones plugged into the side of the unit as no bluetooth

No speaker. It works the same as my 550. Audio is only available from the car mount as it is the mount itself that has the speaker. The bike mount doesn't have a speaker. One can use headphones plugged into the gps unit's 3.5 mini jack socket. The 550 has Bluetooth connectivity for an appropriate intercom system. I'm not sure if the 400 has Bluetooth. I have never used any type of audio assistance with mine when on the bike. I just look at it now and again. Yes, I miss the odd turning...

I've had the same Zumo 400 unit for 10 years or so now and it's been very good. I trialed the sound and gave up - wires dangling everywhere, you had to turn it way up to hear over the wind noise and incessant beeping from speed camera alerts. You'll get a nominal 4 hours out of it on battery; the powered Zumo mount is worth having although they seem to last 2-3 years before water ingress kills them. Get a lifetime map update if it doesn't have one already, well worthwhile.

Thanks James. It does have the powered bike mount so I'll have to keep an eye on it for corrosion etc. I'll just use it without audio as it'll be placed just behind the screen in eyeline anyway, so shouldn't be much of a problem.
It currently doesn't have lifetime map updates but I'll look into it as I think the current maps are UK and Europe 2009.
