Torx Bolt Size

Post by Grip Fast »

Anyone know the size of the torx bolts which hold the black plastic engine protector (3 bolts required) on an R1200S (and I'm sure other models)?

I confess to being useless at judging bolt sizes, and interweb searches have failed to identify the ones I want.

Thanks.

Ah, looking at R1200S photographs, it seems they don't come with the plastic protectors that I have on mine (not that they would protect against more than the lightest of scrapes). That might explain why I can't find parts diagrams showing them.

Yesterday I was at a bike show with people selling loads of random bolts, including torx heads, and today I discover I need one. :-(

You learn something new every day. 5mm diag shank, 1mm thread pitch and 20mm length shank makes it an M5-1.0x20

5mm OD and 1mm pitch would be a VERY unusual thread, they are usually 0.8mm pitch.

items 3 and 4

(so 2 @ M6 x 20 and 1 @ M6 x 25 per side , U1 so standard 1mm thread pitch , 8.8 references the strength specification)
