2004 BCR running rich...
I've not really ridden my BCR much in the last year (after sorting what turned out to be some clogged injectors on this twin spark motor - after filling up with some dodgy petrol somewhere in the past).
Anyway, BCR is back on the road and I'm contemplating a tour in a couple of weeks form now.
I had my injectors reconditioned and its running reliably again with good power delivery throughout the rev range again (I'd forgotten what a nice bike BCR is to ride compared to the 1150GS I'd switched to).
I have detected its running rich though and a fellow rider confirmed this following me last week - anything I should check?
As I recall I'm on standard engine management and filter element but with a decat y-pipe, other than that completely standard. twin spark BCR.
Any pointer appreciated.

could be your 02 sensor probe that fits in your exhaust (lamber probe? cant think if that's its proper name) has packed up, the bike then runs in rich mode.

I would start with the service procedure, air filter and intake clean, plugs, valve clearances and throttle sync. See what that throws up. If you have not got the right eprom chip in your ecu for the decat then that ain`t right either. Starters, drain off the airbox sump, if that is glooped up then your filter may be too and causing air starvation?
Good luck
Good luck

Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)
started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

Thanks for the pointers - I will check all that over the next week or two when I service the bike.
Where can I get an EPROM chip set correctly to counteract my de-cat & K&N filter on a twin spark '04/'05 R1100S - (without costing the earth)?

Did you manage to find a chip?
Was looking into the coding plugs and came across this site
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/archive/in ... 2-p-3.html
which has a lot of what appears to be good information about how the motronic system works with different chips & coding plugs & how they relate to one another.
Mine has the y pipe so have connected pins 30 & 87a, which supposedly makes it slightly richer, but wonder if the BCR has a different chip to match the lazer exhaust as the exhaust looks slightly on the rich side already.
I haven't taken it out yet but understand that with the lambda closed loop the motronic 2.4 adapts to the sensor readings over a period of time, so does this take it back to the same place as it started at, or does 87a link it to a different map?

I'll take a look thanks - but I gave up trying to get mine to run chipped or jumpered for de-cat as it ran like a dog when I started messing with it (although I did also have a K&N filter fitted at the time).
I've just gone back to my default setting I've had for 5 years and that is: Y-pipe on the 2004 BCR's stock cans, standard paper filter, and no chip and no de-cat jumpering.
It works even if it still does run a bit rich.
It went like a rocket -when I did fit K&N and jumper for de-cat (standard chip still), but it wouldnt start or idle very well (and I've got Ducatis on carbs. for that sort of hassle), so I put it back to standard.

Just tried the jumper thing today & came to the same conclusion, it's better with the original set up.
Having read a number of the posts in the link which I posted, it seems that the aftermarket chips all make the bike run richer to overcome the mapping produced to meet the emission standards.
Interestingly the Greek guy who produces them (and people who install them) say that the bikes run better & are more economical which sounds a bit odd, but he goes on to say that by having better & smoother running with greater tractability, you tend to make progress at lower revs hence the better economy ( that's how it sounds to me).
No doubt he can produce a suitable chip for the bcr, but I am wondering if BMW installed a chip to match the laser exhausts anyway (maybe at first service to satisfy regulations when selling the bike, but just speculating here).
Looking at the exhaust it seems to be on the rich side, but runs well (de cat) and plugs look right, so maybe it is set up to be like that & give better power delivery rather than being set up to meet emissions??
The motronic unit is described as:
Motronic MA2.4
Motorcycle Variant: R1150R/GS 91 Oktan
If it means anything to anyone? Is 91 Oktan ,,,Octane?
Have I got a GS disguised as an S???
