Where can I get stick coils for an R1100S twin spark?
Where can I get BMW stick coils for my twin spark - BMW are talking about 7-10 days to deliver from Germany, and I could do with getting my hands on a couple to fault find a replace suspected failing units on my R1100S.
Does anyone know if they are a part any UK suppliers keep on the shelf?
I have them as BMW park no 12137715853

7 - 10 days seems a bit much. When mine went a local independent mechanic said they weren't usually a stock part (he was a BM mechanic) but he called the local dealer and they had 2 in for a repair the next week and they could let me have them and they would order another which seems to suggest they could get them in quickly (Coopers Sunderland). Try Motorworks?

Hmm Curious - I tested the coils on my Twinspark R1100S today.
.... any combination of removing one coil or plug connection at a time, the bike still runs, so maybe not a coil failure - back to the Throttle Position Sensor as possible cause of lumpy running at high revs.

actually yes, that's a good point and although it ran I did detect a change in timing/firing as disconnected which would be a clue
I am confused on the stick coils on my 1100 twinspark in that the lower plugs just have HT leads going to them, whereas the 2nd plug has the stick coils in line. I take it there is a coil pack for the lower two plugs somewhere else. Has this ever failed for people or is is just a case of replacing the two sticks and plugs and going from there.
I am also planning to get a spare Throttle position sensor to try in case its that.
regards

right - I have a selection of used parts coming from motorworks now:
pair of stick coils, coil pack for the other pair of plugs, and a Bosch TPS
will experiment fitting them at the weekend after they arrive and report back what it was.

Thanks again re. Hall Sensor info. (you learn something every day and I had heard of it, but didn't really know what it did until now).
I wouldn't say my bike quite has those symptoms explained by a failing Hall Sensor, but its something else to check/be aware of.
Mine is more poor pickup when warm, almost like a lumpy fuel starvation when you accelerate above 3000rpm and just rough running generally.
I am getting it looked at next week by an independent ahead of MOT, and will get and oil, filter and plug change along with some more diagnostics on the coils and TPS, and the Hall sensor is another thing to consider in the mix, thanks.
