EP means Extreme Pressures.
it's an additive to greases.
Are you saying that you should buy the additive - and mix your own grease?
All constituent parts to a lubricant - are "additives"........
Ehh..........

No.
some thirty years ago, when i worked at Volvo Penta, we had two greases (from SKF) to work with.
One was called LGMT, and the other was LGEP. Don't know what MT stands for, but EP ehh... i'm tired and heading for bed. See you tomorrow:-)

That's actually what I have and yes, if it does what it says on the spec sheet will be fine... although the more spec sheets for different greases I read, the more they seem the same.
is extremely suitable for high working temperature conditions, heavy loads, shock loads and where water and dirt may penetrate the greasing point
.
Thanks for all the input , I didn't mean for this to become like one of those oil threads..

Remember though - The R1100s is not related to the space shuttle or a supersonic jet fighter. It is more akin to a Massey Ferguson.
But - if you only had one tin of grease in your shed.......... make it EP2.

I'm wary of using oil which says "EP" unless it is specifically recommended. The additives can do more harm than good, if you're not completely sure. But I think EP greases work in a slightly different way. In other words, their EP additives can be laying dormant, without doing any real harm, until (and if) the right pressure/temperature conditions are reached. I don't know if that that is correct, but if it is, then what you're saying makes sense.
