Scot exiled in the Toon

Post by hughie »

Hi all. Originally from Glasgow, working in Newcastle and loving the commute on my R1100S in all weathers. Only downside, the rotten finish on the fork brace and castings! Combine with the local authority's addiction to salting the roads and it looks like a polishing job over the coming months. Any tips?
Looking forward to Summer with my new Pilot Road 2s.

Hi Hughie and welcome to the site. So do you follow the locals' lead and ride around in shorts and tee-shirt through the winter [smilie=cold.gif]

Cheers,

Paul (Geordie exiled in warmer southern climes 8) )
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Me too!.. Well parts..
Just got new Pilot Road 2s.. Commute when nice (time served when younger) on bike from Hexham way to Wallsend (that's pronounced Waalsend for those darn sarf). Originally from Hexham.. OK so not many parts same! Though agree wrt salt.. (just had to get new back box for car) and looking forward to summer!
When you say "Originally from Glasgow, working in Newcastle and loving the commute" you don't mean commuting from Glasgow?!!

Hi Paul,
thanks for the welcome. Yeah, T-shirt and shorts, the only way to go! Everyone keeps saying that I should be used to the cold "cos you come from Scotland" but I don't remember it being this windy in Glasgow!

Hi Simon,
Actually did commute weekly from Glasgow to Toon to begin with (that's when I fell in love with my R1100S). Moved down 18 months ago so just do a short hop now from Kingston Park to Silverlink.
Being shown some great roads by some biking colleagues. Hoping to learn more.
