wheel bearings

wheel bearings

anyone changed these and know why the the left wheel bearing is 3 times as expensive as the right bearing?

Take it we are talking front?
Ive not changed them on the BMW yet, but have done plenty other bikes,fairly straight forward normally,although BMW do show various special tools in the manual and there is talk of heating the hub up to remove them.

The cost difference is the left hand bearing is an angular contact bearing as opposed to a standard ball bearing on the right.

If you get the numbers off the bearings you can order them from simply bearings https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/index.php. Should be a bit cheaper.
Think the bearing numbers are 6204 Right hand, 3204 Left hand, but dont quote me on that.

Recently changed mine (because I've had the wheels painted) I used a slide hammer to get the first one out - then drift & tapping stick for the other side - it's a little awkward to get behind the first bearing, but once it's going it's fine.

The off side bearing is about 3 times the width of the nearside one hence the price!
Simple job with a decent drift.

I might have the sides mixed up there, but one is deffo much bigger that t'other. It's to do with the camber me thinks??
