What size is my engine?

Post by allan9966 »

I've got a 2003 1100S which I recently aquired. When I came to insure it, the insurance company were suprised to hear that it was 1130cc (as denoted on the registrtion document), they thought it should have been 1085cc. Was the engine of the 1100S upgraded to the 1150 unit without BMW changing the model designation? Or has the engine on mine non-standard. Probably not a very important question, but I'd like to know!
Regards, Allan

P.S: There are still some places left on a rather special trip - check out: http://www.bikeaid.org.uk

It's a 1085cc - always has been, unless it's got the 1150 barrels.

Thanks Grommit, but why has it got 1130cc on the reg doc? Is there any way I can tell what barrels are on it? ....... without taking the heads off!

No idea - shame it's not like H-D who stamp the cc size on the outside of the barrels.

Tbh it sounds like whoever filled in the details, either at DVLA or at the supplying dealer of the bike when it was registered, cocked up. The V5 will have the previous owner's details - I'd give him/her a shout, see if they can shed any light.

Personally I'd reckon it's just a mistake.

Thanks for the replies - can't help feeling slightly disappointed that I don't have something slightly unusual! If I have the heads off I'll measure the bores, who knows!

I've just re-taxed my bike on-line, which by the way is really quick and convenient, and in doing so noticed its been registered with a 998cc engine

What do I care!

Allan,

My first Boxer Cup had 1130cc on the V5, which is obviously a mistake.
