Rear brake pad removal

Post by horse27 »

OK ... probably a stupid question but I haven't got my manual at the moment ...

Rear calliper is off - little C-clip on securing pin removed ... why won't the pin come out???

Let me have my old worn brake pads you b*stard!

I'll go back and fiddle but if someone can let me know in the meantime ... cheers, Lee.

It's a tight, tapered fit - you need to tap it from the left hand side with a (small) hammer and drift. This is easier done with the calliper still mounted on the bike (doesn't put a strain on the flexi pipe - rotate the wheel so you're working between the spokes) but if you have 3 hands you can do it after you remove the calliper

Put the caliper back on tighten the bolts and then use a small pin punch and twat it with asuitable twatting tool.

When re-assembling use copperslip on the pin, however the next time that you try to remove the pin it will still be stuck.

Right - I hit it from the wheel side yes? How does that big pin get through the little hole on the right side then???? I am a little confused ... as usual.

Sorry, my mistake. Take the clip off and tap the pin towards the wheel from the right hand side of the bike. Working through the wheel is what you do when replacing the pin - it's a couple of months since I did mine.....

All done and copper greased (for no reason  ) ... the simplest tasks and all that.

Thanks for the advice... Lee.
