Which Boots

Its new all weather boot time

Don't really want to spend more than £150+VAT

Looking at:

Alpinestars Web (Gore-Tex)
Alpinestars Tourer (Gore-Tex)
Oxtar Matrix (Gore-Tex)
Oxtar TCS Sport (Gore-Tex)

all from nearest dealer which is the seriously expensive Sondel Sport...

Not sure about zips - last pair of Hein Gerickes had 3 velcro straps which were easy to use and break proof..

any thoughts?

i know its over budget by 100 but getting the daytona evo gtx from germany worked out to cost £278 delivered(see recommended post) and when they eventually need refurbing its a lot cheaper than new boots

I've got a pair too,but for the extra money I'd take the Sidi ones.They are better to wear.
If it were me.......I'd be looking on ebay! £170.00 for a pair of boots is way to much.
I can understand spending loadsa money on proper walking boots!

ta for the responses

have to try boots on first (funny shaped feet) so sort of rules out online purchases plus I can't be doing with waiting around for them to turn up.... the Daytona (whilst no doubt the cream of the crop) are a bit more than I can justify to the other half...

Bailey are you referring to the Sidi Black Rain boots? Cost wise I will try to get the VAT back (protective clothing related to work

) and the last pair are still going (albeit with a hole in the sole) 4 years on which is better than most shoes I own. So £150 is not ridiculous...

I spend a lot of time walking/standing around (particularly building sites) in em so a chunky sole is a must - some of the more sporty boots are a bit thin to give better feedback through the pegs.

Got to be leather - lorica is somehow wrong for something that gets worn all the time... I'm thinking of the smell...

Also not mad on plastic bits... my Alpinestars SMX's have all the go faster bling I need - they are for 'spirited weekend riding' and track days only as they are too tight to walk far in and squeak like a tortured ferret.

will give the oxtar a good look see tomorrow, and will now be in S. London in the morning so will swing by Hein Gericke & Infinity to compare.

Anyone tried the BMW boots - their touring range looks interesting

What about the Bandit XCR Gore Tex here. Not bad at £185 (£157.45 ex VAT)

Infinity stores stock Daytona boots so you can try them on and if you find a pair you like get them to price match. They've always done it for me providing it's a UK company.

Which model you should buy??? don't ask me,which make?? Daytona their light years infront of the rest.

I've got both Evo's and Winners as an alrounder look at one of the Gortex
ones.

Best thing to do, find out what fits and look on e-bay,i bought a brand new pair of Daytona Gortex GTX's fot 75 quid still in the box!!

Hein Geriche Rhino, Goretex all weather. £130. Warm, dry two year guarantee I think.

Hi Ade

I've just bought new boots recently and ended up with the Oxtar TCS Gore-tex thingys. Previous were Sidi Race which have lasted 6 years and heaven knows how many scrappings on the mini-motos ! However the new Sidis are just a bit too gay-boy power ranger for my tastes so that ruled them out.

I did have my heart set on a pair of Daytonas, but having tried on the Oxtars ( which are CE approved incidently ) they were very comfy had excellent ankle protection and with the Goretex it was a no brainer for me, bought them there and then. Wouldn't say the soles are the thickest things in the world, though they're by no means thin, but it may be that they're not thick enough for your needs.

Oxtar make boots for amongst others BMW by the way so it may be that you end up buying a boot that you could get for a lot less wonga without the BM badge !

Men & Motors did a review of Oxtar's a few years back; went to the factory, showed the R&D behind the boot. Their impression at that time was the best value for money. And as said above, CE marked. Incidentally, they are not up to the safety requirement of building sites in the UK.

Just as well I'm bought 'em for the bike and not building then !

They're certainly proving very comfy on the 2000 miles I've done so far.

checked out Hein Gericke and Infinity this morning, tried a variety on and really wanted to buy the Rhino's but didn't like the lace up front...

tried a variety of own brand, alpinestars, daytona and sidi and ended up with the Daytona Road Star Goretex, they were simply much better made, offered excellent protection and were the most comfy off the shelf - which they should be at the price

and my wife liked the look of em which always helps.

Never made it to Sondel to check out the Oxtar....

they had better last at least as long as my previous pair.... which will be kept as reserves for muddy building sites

(I know that they don't qualify as a site boot officially).

good choice, I have had a pair of roadstars for three years and they wear well, are very comfortable and have never let in a drop of rain. They can be sent back to daytona when they need a refurb at a very modest cost and they come back like new,
