Geoff, sorry you couldn't make it to Mallory - but the truth is you didn't miss an effin thing.
We had a terrible weekend. Blew a radiator hose in practice that dumped boiling water down John's boot. Pushed the outfit back to the paddock (which totally bolloxed me). We fixed the cooling hose and ran it up to temp - but not all the hoses were getting warm. Then the oil pressure light comes on while we were testing the rad fix. No oil pressure. Looks like the pump (which does water and oil on the R1) has imploded. So we take the sump off and theres a lot of little shiny bits in it. So that was that. One knackered engine - no spare - weekend over after 1 1/2 laps. Excuse my language, but
FUCK IT!
Actually, it could have been worse. The hose blew off because of the failed water pump, but if it hadn't and we had carried on quickening up without any oil circulating either, then we would in all probability have rodded the motor at speed. Nasty. So I guess we count blessings and hope it is just a new pump not a new motor. 'Thats racing' as some miserable twat said. We didn't even get past the line a second time to record a single lap time.
See you back at Brands on the 13th/14th (I hope).
Harry
