Is there a member out there that can help me?
After been out of the saddle for 40 long years. And now retired, I have taken up biking again and it’s great should have done it years ago. The problem is I used to have a Norton Dominator 99 (600cc) not very fast but with a following wind and going down a hill maybe I could get 90mph on a good day.
But boy could I go round the welsh bends, the old featherbed frame was unbeatable (never had a straight footrest. (Sorry footpeg) All bent up from scrapping the black stuff. Now that I`1v got myself a R1100SS I am a little bit disappointed at the road holding of the modern bike or is it BMW telelever paralever suspension system, Taken up reading mags on the subject in trying to understand. But all the say is the r1100s can definitely corner once you have sussed out the telelever- paralever suspension system.. What I would like to know what is there to suss out?
Or am I going to stay disappointed.

Bloody hell what a question,it's a good'un the trouble is answering it,because it's got such a quirky front end you'll notice there isn't any front end dive when you brake,you have to learn to feel the road through the tyre rather than the front suspension.
In road tests in the mags,it's discribed as wooden!! because of the lack of feel,it just take some getting used to,when you do,it means you can brake very late,because the front end doesn't dive.
I personnally am not a great fan of the stock S,it steers very slow,for a quick fix increase the reload although you will get a poor ride it will show how the steering improves by raiseing the rear,there various ways of doing a better job,but they cost money.
Best advice be patient,the S is an odd bike just takes time to understand it.
And yes i am old enough to have owned a featherbed frame!!!

Featherbed frames, We'll be talking about 2LS brakes next!!! And yes I am old enough to have Been There/Done that. Persevere (??) with the S and I'm sure it will come right in the end just needs a slightly differrent mindset. Shame you didnt come and see those of us who weekended in your homeground, You could have asked all the questions and ridden with a very helpfull group of people. See you at Burton next month?

In real terms you are probably travelling much quicker than you ever did on your Dommie, The S just never seems that fast but is capable of covering many miles at decent speeds without too much effort.

Dave, I told you that you would get more response from this site! The others on "that site" would take their bike to a BMW dealer if they scraped a footpeg, and then have a new one on order. What tyres do you have fitted?

Thanks for getting back to me. ( Herrman is that German?) Twin leading shoes? It’s all coming back to me now. God…. 40 years is a long time. I did not realise I had forgotten so much, maybe I should have stayed with the car. (only joking) As you said the dommie was a lot slower and lighter. Oh yes Madman thanks for pointing me at this site, You question what tyres? Brand spanking new matching pair of bt 020 with 180 wide on rear. (ss)
