2005 BCR with mucho vibration felt through the bars...

Post by masha »

Any pointers on sources of vibration in my buddy's 2005 R1100S ? - I suggested he check engine & exhaust mounts/rubbers. I rode it this week and there is definately a lot more vibration felt at the bars between 3000-5000rpm which I can see would be really annoying on a ride.

Would probably be worth looking at balancing the throttle bodies as this can often make a significant improvement. We all know the 11S isn't exactly the smoothest engine ever made, but measures can be taken to help it on its way.

Also, engine's mileage can make a difference too - I've found that bikes with upwards of 15k miles on tend to be smoother, but of course that's no figure set in stone.

Hope he gets sorted at any rate. :)

Hi
First check that the bike is running right. Valve clearance and throttle body sync etc. then if still bad vibes check mounts. There is a spar on the frame under the gearbox which has been known to fracture.
All the best
