The expensive service is at 30k miles.

It really depends on how the bike has been used though.

Yes it only counts if the bike has been raced so engine out and stripped down.

Thought I'd have a look online:

http://www.bmw-motorrad.dk/dk/da/bikes/ ... t_2008.pdf

Page 171:

BMW Service, engine
A special engine service has to
be undertaken after 50000 km.

That's 31,250 miles, doesn't mention racing. That's going to be pricey :(

I once paid 1k GBP to service the Boxercup (40k km service) god bless 'sm ... So that doesn't look madly expensive.

I don't understand how people is scared about the 50k service on the HP2.
It's a really particular bike. Of course you have to take care of it.
The engine is "delicate" let's say.
50.000km on that bike is A LOT. I've seen just a couple so far over that mileage. Lots of time to save money for the service.
Not to talk about how much it costs to insure it

Talking to my mechanic, he explained that the service can go all the way to replace pistons, conrods, etc. But it depends if the bike has been raced, used on trackdays a lot, ect.
If the bike is normally used on the road, there will be much less stuff to take off/replace.

That is a good price anyway.

Good price but 4 owners in 3,800 miles

And every one of them has 'ragged it' to see what it'll do

Pas pour moi merci

But - have they?

It is a very focused bike, not a bit like the 1200s. It's a Honda SP1/Mille R/Ducati 1098 - with a bit more cojones.

Only good for open roads and track-days........ so it is perfectly feasible that it has been bought - and disappointed?

My current R-1, according to the mileage/service documentation I got with it - must have spent the first 2yrs in someone's lounge/hall.......

That rear tyre 'might' have been replaced but it looks a bit flat in the middle and there's 'no' wear at all on the edges. 'If' that's the original rear then it's just been bimbled around. If I had my own garage I'd snatch his hand off.

You might be right Al but I suspect that you have indulged in giving yours some 'berries' on the odd occasion??

Headers are in a bit of a state and not easy to bring back.

Strange that in four owners not one of them has elected to fit a rear hugger? Very first thing I did on mine

Anyway, no concern to me as I already have one :D

Which is why someone from this parish commented some time back that the 1200S is probably a better bike in the real world - BUT, if I had the space in my garage and the money would I have one? Damn right I would I think they are stunning looking bikes

If I remember correctly. the bike new came with K3.

Headers seem ok.
Mine are sort of like that (a bit cleaner) after 6k miles and a few wet rides as well.
