Gearbox splines

Post by Henners »

Hi guys ~ I know that this subject has been done to death however I can not find an answer to this specific question and wondered if any of you knew the answer:

Did BMW ever address the problem of the splines wearing and if so from which model year?

Thanks!

No, the 1100 and 1150 models as far as I'm aware all wear the splines unevenly because of the position of the clutch assembly and length of the gearbox input shaft. There is a fix for it. A search on ADVrider or pelican parts forum will reveal all.

Thanks for the info, very useful. It seems a lot depends on how much the clutch is held in the disengaged position whilst in gear and that's not something that you'll ever find out on a used bike with many owners. I guess a noisy clutch is a no no though.
