Engine case Cap screws

Post by Merecat »

I noticed that the cap screws on the front of the engine casing are getting a bit scabby. Anyone know the size? And are they likely to shear when they see the Allen key?

Original bmw stuff is GENERALLY stronger than after market ss stuff, in my experience, although they do not look pretty. If they have not suffered thread galling then they should come out. Try a bit of heat from a warm air gun before removal.

Its the size Im after. I have access to some shiny cap screws at work.
If the will come out without too much stress then Ill replace them 1 at a time. If they are going to be a pain in the a$$ then Ill make the reads look better.

I have just recently purchased a bunch of bolts via a retailer local to me : http://www.tightenup.co.uk/

I'm quietly confident these guys will beat those advertised via the usual suspects for bwm parts... you may need to specify the bolt (even send them a sample).. Ask for Tony & tell them that Brad sent you.. these guys deal with trade so while we might be small fry in terms of their business, the prices therefore reflect trade prices...
