Disks

Post by slparry »

For a couple of years I've put up with a slight warp in one of my front disks on my KGT, I've ridden around it most of the time. But now they'd got to the point of being worn out and not wanting to pay £270 per disk to BMW I got these from eBay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291011957738? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Great value at £66 each, especially as they're the same as the OEM ones which are also Brembo (and the same as on my BCR)!

Put new bobbins / bolts / washers .... .and then discovered why mine had previously been troublesome.

A few years back I asked the dealership to pop new bolts on my disks as they'd gotten corroded. Turns out one of the washers had gotten trapped inside the bobbin and forced into place between the bolt and the bobbin effectively removing the "floating" functionality. Then first time I cooked the brakes it had nowhere to go but to warp the disk.

I've kept the offending parts but won't kick a fuss up as it's a genuine accident and I don't want to spoil the relationship I have with my dealers.

Any way a test ride confirmed yesterday my brakes are back to awesome :)

Yep, I think the later 02> shaft BMW's all have the same front disks as I think they're also the same on the R12 series as on the K1x00 series.

Either way £60 odd quid is a great price and worth having a pair in the garage, after all, if you don't use them there would be no problems selling them on in a few years time

Steve - even better deal here :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400927505589

Just got them for my R1200GS with a set of pads and they only charged 15 Euros for the lot delivered - genuine Brembo sintered pads were only £40 for the pair as well .
