R12s Gone.....

Post by eyore »

R 12 s gone, this has arrived. Absolute hooligan machine, great fun for day spins and compliments the R11s which is perfect for touring.

Its only got 10,100 miles on an 06 plate and immaculate , so hopefully being an Italian and being an Aprilia it will prove reliable

Oddly enough when I suggested the possibility of getting an R11S some people suggested it would be a disappointment after the R12S. Well I found the R11s has more character and despite being a bit lardy is a very enjoyable ride.
The new Aprilia is a somewhat mad version of the R12s which I loved owning, but just recently it started to feel a bit flat for me.
Now I have two quite different chalk and cheese bikes so hope to stick with the current pair for a while.
I do really envy people who are so happy with what they have, that they keep bikes for years and years .

Interesting thoughts Eyore. I took a R11S on a test ride and like you thought that despite being more lardy the 11 had more character than the 12.

You should love the Tuono, the Aprilia engine is superb. It's worth getting a Hawker Odyssey (or equivalent) for reliable starting and to protect the sprag clutch.

I think you made a good choice.
It's easier to justify having more than one bike if they have a difference in fields of usage.
I'd love to have a Tuono.
But for me it falls in the same category as my old Suzuki. With Wiseco pistons, sleeves and block, cams, slingshot carbs and an 4-2-1 exhaust it wheelies in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear.
I bought it in spring 1988, so to sell it would be like selling an old race horse to Findus!

Nice bike, I had one for 2 years, bit of a hooligan especially with lowered gearing ( it really is better, and who needs a naked that's geared for 184 mph), the only mechanical problem was the odd stall/instrument reset which can be cured with a "starter" solenoid of a R1 so I was told, it should complement the 11s well.

Lovely bike , although the only downside for me is the off beat sound of the 60 deg v twin . What county did Humbug end up in ?

I had an Aprilia Falco for 9 years prior to my R12S, and I didn't have any problems with it, or any trouble getting parts for the occasional item that wore out. The finish was fantastic and it looked as good when I sold it as it did when I bought it.

So I would have no worries about buying an Aprilia. Enjoy your Tuono. If you haven't already found it, this is a good Aprilia forum (or at least it was when I had the Falco).

I agree , have a few bikes for the different type of me ...

My hooligan road bike is my Suzuki DRZ 400 SM , great for laying it down and playing in the lanes .

Quick as any thing up to 60 , then runs out of puff .

My other bike for fun is my KTM 250 EXC 2 smoker , for green lanes and the odd Hare 'n Hound I race in .

Then after selling my R11S ... I realised I'd stuffed up .

Will be shortly getting another , then I think for a while I'll be complete .

Having had an R11S , I didn't realise how attached one gets to them !!!

So , I completely understand others need to have a varied selection of bikes .
Old man ... now .

Oh dear! This is confusing now! I want an R1200S but the other bike I was considering in the Tuono. I thought the BMW would be great but you have sold yours to get a Tuono!

I thought I had decided since I was going for an R1100S Boxer Cup then the R1200S to get the better bike.

Is the Tuono that much better? I was thinking of a Gen 2 though like this but in black with Akras.

No just different, but I can see a 11s and Tuono complementing each other very well, as opposed to a 11s and 12s, essentially the same bike 😂
