Post by boxman2341 »

Hi need some help here please,I was travelling at about 60 mph when I heard a pop from somewhere on the bike and I lost all lights and horn plus the speedo and on further inspection the brake lights had also gone,Al that was showing was the clock which had reset and the mileage. Fuse i thought but not so sure now ! Any help gratefully accepted oh and the bike is a r1200s. Tia

Ideally you'll need to get it on a GS911 to see which circuit the canbus has had a problem with and reset it , if the fault is still "live" the canbus will shutdown that circuit again.

If you don't have access to a GS911 then it's a dealer job really .... I have one so if you want a ride up to near the Horseshoe Pass I'm more than happy to connect mine to your system to diagnose it?

I had a feeling that might be the case, luckily I have a good independant dealer not too far away so it looks like a trip out to him,but thanks for the reply and thanks for the offer but I think I will take it a little closer to home, thanks once again.

is the bike fully standard ie no HID lights fitted at all? Sounds like something us R1200 s owners should follow - i dont fancy getting stranded somewhere with no lights - please keep us posted

Well at last I can give you an update of sorts, the delay was due to the mechanic doing the work being down for 3 weeks with the flu! Anyway the central vehicle computer as he said has gone pop,i have seen it and it rattles like a babies rattle! so its kaput I would say he is getting me a second hand one on approval and hopefully it will be sorted, I did ask how much a new one would be and he said £500 against £75 for the used one so heres hoping sorry cant tell you anymore at the moment but I will keep you posted on further developments

update

Post by boxman2341 »

At last I can now tell all,the problem was in fact the original alarm that was fitted to the bike {BMW}which as now been removed I might add.It has taken no short time to sort out and was finally fixed by Benhams BMW Wolverhampton who had to obtain a new cable from Germany to be able to connect to the bikes computer, apparently they don't have many R1200s`s in hence they didn't have the right computer cable. Its been a bit of a nightmare but now the bike is running as it should and not clocking up thousands of miles,it was showing 26k but now reads 31k.
Sorry for taking so long to reply and I hope you don't have a similar problem but if you do you might know what the problem could be.

Seriously though, thanks for the heads up boxman. My 12S has the BMW-fit alarm. Fingers crossed.
