One of the local dealerships, A+D motorcycles, Denbigh, is having a test weekend so I went and had a play.
Took the versys 1000 out, and while a pleasant enough bike it just didn't light any fires. Compared to the K1200GT it just didn't feel quick or handle that well. Quite disappointed as I liked the look of it and was expecting more performance.
Despite its reliability issues occasionally the K is proving difficult to replace

Sounds interesting.
Incidentally even if the Versys was the best bike on the planet I coulden't live with its looks.
There's the S1000R, more street fighter style than sports tourer. Mate of mine has just ordered one to replace his mint K13R Dynamic.
BMW shot themselves in the foot a bit IMHO by replacing the K13GT with the K16GT as the 16 is really more a replacement for the K12LT. So there's no sport tourer multi cylinder in the range. The K1300S is more to the sports end of sports tourer.
I guess it's why I like my K, it looks a lardy tourer but goes like a scalded cat

Not too bad, I could live with it, be easier on my knee than the 11, although rear pillion is quite a big step, not sure Sue would appreciate being higher than me.

Ah right hadn't seen that .... although it, and the Versys have that dirty oily thing attached to the back wheel
There are rumours (and poor quality spy shots) of a new R1200ST based on the new rumoured ( and poor quality spy shots) R1200R with the WC boxer engine, the ST will have a half fairing and basically look like that S1000 Adv in the pic above, but with shaft drive but sadly no front telelever
I like the idea of that prospect more than ANY other bike currently available!

The original ST was a road going odd ball GS, The 1200ST was more like a modern RS with a strange headlight, and the new one will be a 1200R with a half fairing and a springy fork (not good in my book TBH).
I agree, the K1600 is too big and expensive to replace the K1300GT, they should have kept it in the range, especially as the base platform is still in use...
