It’s a good idea! And gave me an idea of a 4th option. I think these two are easier to get decent looking. Like everybody else I like alt 2 best, but I think it’s going to be difficult to get the rectangles in exactly the right spots, and it will look like sh*t!
If it doesn’t look good I’ll take it all off and leave it plain white. Or put some rim tape on instead.

Bellypan colour

Post by Gruffalo »

Ok chaps well, have the belly pan and as my r11 is that lovely yellow colour,
I was thinking what colour shall I paint it yellow with black graphics or black with white graphics ?
So many choices

Yep, I like these more. I prefer the top one, but maybe with the rectangles slightly bigger - similar in size to the bottom one perhaps?

Wrapping belly pan

Post by Gruffalo »

Forgot to mention in my last post that all the companies I spoke to about wrapping a belly pan don't recommend it because the abuse that the belly pan takes, that's why the paint option looks better

You'd probably benefit from a 6" wide strip of "helicopter tape" running the length of the underside, together with some around the lower leading edge of the belly pan, though.

It will take the sting out of stones.

I've asked about a clear wrap and stone chip protection and the reply was they use some stuff for prestige car for stone chip protection but it is quite expensive ( but there again so is a genuine BCR bellypan!!). Once I get my painted bellypan stickered up, I'm going to try it. I'll report back

Whatever you choose, I suggest you cut pieces of paper, in your preferred color, and tape them on the belly pan to see what it looks like. I liked the one below of the two a lot, but after looking at the pan for 10 min from different angles, I suddenly realised that it was the same pattern as Yamaha had in the late ‘70s! I really don’t want my BMW to resemble an old aircooled RD 125.
