It was new about 2months ago, connected it to the oxford charger it was showing 13.5v and 79amp is that where it should be ?
Hi. As Al suggests the battery can only really be tested properly under load. I reckon you'd need a fancy gizmo to do this off the bike. The current needed to crank the engine is huge so don't try to fit a normal ammeter in series - it will pop (mine has a max. current rating of 10A; it can take a few hundred amps for a very short time to spin the engine).

Perhaps your battery was a 'Friday afternoon' job? I took advice from trixters and shelled out for an Odyssey. No probs since.

The big result

Post by Gruffalo »

Well I took the starter in to be bench tested at Bedford batteries
As they can test it under load ,
He chained it down set it up and guess what
CLICK CLICK I think the technical term he used was something like
It's Trucked !!
Turns out it's seized at the spindle believes it may have been over spun at some time as looks like the magnets have broken up

Well they can do a replacement at 78.00
So not a bad day

Thanks all you posters for the help and advice

Excellent! Cheaper than an Odyssey battery too.
