Strange... Lost one cylinder on the R100RS in a downpour the other day; it seemed to dry out after a few minutes and I got home OK. Asked around and was advised just to cut off the OE spark plug caps as at least one had moisture in, and replace with NGK screw-ins; and save ~£60 on OEM replacement in the process...
Which I did. And not only do they work, they seem to work better - engine seems more positive, starts more promptly, etc.
Now I had thought that plug caps worked or they didn't, and spark ditto. Is there in fact more to it?

Magnecor do replacement caps/leads for the two plug R1100s, with a variety of insulation thickness available. I fitted their leads to a Honda Civic I owned and revealed that one of the OE leads must have had a fault. The very intermittent misfire it had disappeared. When I asked the lead supplier what the likely cause was, he advised poor lead to cap/top terminal connection was a popular fault.

As they age resistance builds up along the HT lead, so they aren't so efficiant.
