Charging new battery (R1200S)

I am about to fit a new battery to my bike and to save a few pounds am going to avoid OEM. The one I'm getting comes with an acid pack, and when I've filled it, it needs to be connected to a trickle charger to 'complete the activation process. Can this be done connected to the bike using my Can Bus optimate which connects to the accessory socket ?

Maybe a daft question, but...

Can't see any reason why not, if the Optimate is canbus aware it should keep the connection open
