Touring on a 12S

Just been given the green light from she who must be obeyed, for a solo touring trip next Summer,
I plan to go to Mandello Del Lario (home of Moto Guzzi), for about a week.
So I'm now looking at my luggage options.
I'm not into improvising, strapping black bin bags on the back etc.
I like to have the proper equipment for the job, as I have on my other BMW, so am now seeking some advice.
BMW panniers are a given of course, as is a tank bag, but I'm also wondering if there is a way of utilizing the rear hump.
Any advise gratefully recieved.
Even better would be pictures of your set up.

Once you have the panniers fitted - it is relatively easy to fit a waterproof Rollbag accross the pillion hump?

Gelert do a waterproof bag which if you limit to lightweight stuff (T-shirts, skiddies and your mankini) - would be okay?

Alternatively - if you are prepared to modify your pillion seat - someone on here mounted a BMW Vario top-box to it.

I do like that top box set up.
I mean just for convenience while travelling to destination.
Once you're there it can come off of course.

The Vario is quite a heavy box in its own right, but has the advantage of height adjustment to a compact day-use case. A Givi plate and (narrow-ish) top box would be lighter (and cheaper).

When over at the IOM TT - you notice lots of inovative luggage mounts for sports bikes - where people from Germany/France etc have made racks from tubular stainless which they remove when the get to the Island. If you have the time and inclination - that could be a route to follow?

I've found that with carefull packing I can do 14 days away with the tank bag and BMW pan ears.

All set up with an Aldi waterproof rolltop sack across the panniers and a small Bags Connection quicklock tankbag. I prefer to keep the panniers closed in as much as possible to minimise width.

Hello,

I have one of the BMW Small soft tail bags which fits over the rear sat or rear cover whichever you have. I find the strap fits OK beneath allowing you to just unclip it on arrival

It is water proof as well - there are some on eBay

Not sure if you're aware, but like most Italian factories, Moto Guzzi close for the entire month of August (the museum as well). So if you want to visit, look outside of August.

If you have the factory panniers, then an additional bag on the rear seat should more than suffice, though I find I can usually manage with just a tank bag and rear bag for most trips up to 10 days...........

........unless I have my daughter with me!

Nice bike the white plate makes it even better looking....

Here's my luggage solution an Oxford tail pack and the panniers-loads of carrying room and stable and secure

Tut tut Mark, look at the dirt. :?What are you doing on here , missing Humbug?
Did 160 miles yesterday and while it didn't rain on me the roads were wet in places. 2 hrs cleaning yesterday and 2 hrs polishing today.

Anyway almost 15k on the clock now and running like a dream

Thanks for the replies.
I'll be interested to see how much I can get in those panniers.
They may well be big enough to negate the need for anything else.
I'm surprised to see that no one's using Ventura luggage.
I know the rack looks a bit pants without the bags, but it looks quite effective.
