No you don't

Well OK I lied ... you do, and most of the fairing to get to the battery, air filter... at least the fuses only need most of the fairing ;)

Once you have worked out which allen keys and allen screw driver bits to use on the visible and invisible screws once its a doddle (he laughed quietly up his sleeve at this point [smilie=mutley laugh.gif] ).

It does get easier which each time you do it just don't force it if te panel won't come off its because there is still one more screw.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

Tapper;

Maybe you should tell us what bike you have!

If you have a 12S, all you have to remove is the seat.

Cheers

Good point I'd assumed an 11s :)

the worse ones to get to are the inside ones at the back of the bmw badge,you need a longish allen key and turn the forks opersite ways to get them.but you will find out as you go along. :wink:

Having just replaced my battery, yes, you have to remove both fairing panels , and the air intake, but you don't need to remove the tank. Just remove both bolts on either side of the tank & lift it up about 6" & wedge it up with a piece of wood or something similar.

Half hour job, tops. And thats with making a brew halfway through :)

Bear in mind that even with all the screws out the side fairings `hang` on plastic tabs from the centre panel, its easy if you don`t know, to just tug at the fairings and break the tabs, remember to LIFT the side fairings away not pull sideways.... :wink:

Very good point Steve. It's so easy, when re-fitting, to get these tabs 'tucked in' and broken. They're so fragile. Has anyone got a 'pic to illustrate just what they are. I think there's 3 tabs either side(?).

It's all VFR (DCT) round here now. STILL missing my 1100s tho.
