Letting it idle for 15 minutes is a sure way to melt the wireing to the hall sensor Bmw seemingly use the wrong grade of wire then fix it to the inner timing case, when mine went the wireing was broken up and melted it had run fine the day before 100+ miles on the motorway at high speed in the wet not a miss fire nothing next morning it started fine cut out after 15 or so seconds then nothing no fuel or spark, if this proves to be a problen with yours their is a fella from greece selling replacements and Cata Dan[in my sig] will overhaul your old one either of these options will cost about a third of the BMW price and you get a better product

not sure about the fuel issue but I seriously doubt you have cooked the engine by idling for 15 mins, I used to get the headers glowing when balancing the throttles on my GS & no harm ever done. I also know Steptoe once used this method to heat the rear hub to get the final drive bearing out when on tour in some far off desert (Morroco?) by putting the hub on the header then running the bike to heat it up so the bearing came out (the bloke is an utter genius when it comes to oil head BMW's!)

Sounds like a dodgy fill up to me............

After carefully going over the engine, and having the heads tested, I found something different. I found the right cylinder timing to be half a tooth advanced when the engine is set at TDC. I am wondering if this caused the catastrophic failure. It may account for the fact that the bike could ride around at 100km/hr for 8 years, then with one run at 200km/hr fail on one cylinder. Just a thought. besides I don't have much else to go on.

I remember reading in the Haynes manual that half a tooth out is common
A lot of us are running the valve timing advanced nine degrees
I seem to remember mine was out half a tooth

Rebuild with new gaskets and seals
