I'm going to lower them . Has anybody done this? Is there much involved? Do I need to jack the bike up?

Assuming you are talking about an R1100S it is a piece of the proverbial.

No need to jack the front end up, the telelever uppers just fall down (I put some masking tape on them to make sure they didn't fall too far....not sure this is necessary though) when you slacken the yoke bolt and remove the handlebar. Note there is a spring collar to remove at the top of leg to remove first.

Put them underneath the yoke. Put the spring collar on the top then
Bolt back up tightening the bolts according to the manual torques (21Nm for the larger bolts and 9Nm for the smaller handlebar to yoke bolt). note you may need to find a 6mm bolt for the smaller locating bolt at it wouldn;t have been fitted with the hbar above the yoke.

Aye, one at a time is what I did a couple of weeks ago the day after I got my bike......just couldn't stand the upright position with the bars above the yoke (esp compared to my RC8).

Just be aware the wheel will 'flop' once one of chrome portions is removed from the yokes. But it is easy to align again once the handlebar is put back on it.

No more than a 15 min job start to finish.

Nick do you have the bars below the top yoke now it's just most people move them up

If they are below the yoke you should get away with undoing the positioning bolt's and just slide them down checking the clearance to the pannels and fairing, if you have clearance all should be good you wont be able to use the retaining bolts after but neither can most that have moved bars up.

EDIT Had a look through some of the pics you have put up it looks like you have the option high bars fitted i can't see any reason you can't move them down do one side at a time as jeznewsome said and all should be well i moved mine up with the bike on the centre stand

EDIT 2 If you want to wait till early next week i can bring mine up and we can compare the different bars we have as there may be a slight difference in angle that we haven't noticed

Forecast was bad for monday turned out a lovely day however today was not good on way to abergavenny it was torential at times i was so happy to be in the car [old age eh] if i don't make it tomorrow theres always friday, we will be up on sat but in car as we will have grandson with us


I remember when i did mine the opposit way there was a spring clip ontop of the fork slider above the yoke i think it's just for locating the slider in position to the yoke when assembled in the factory they now reside on a shelf in my wardrobe

I stayed dry all the way home pulled over just before brecon as i could see it was black there, a quick fag later it appeared to lighten a bit stayed dry till 10 miles from home then heavens opened my army surplus goretex did a splendid job again!

A quick update on my fuel consumption for anyone interested i left home full tank filled up in kington £10.40 [not sure on milage] that is tremendus to what it has been in the past

I am so happy with that i have still got to give the left valves a check and reset the T/B's again [now it has 500+ miles on it after the last stint of running in] but it's so much better. The BBS need setting as it smells rich ticking over and is making that splashy sound so there are some gains to be made there, i am still finding it hard to believe that removing the CCP and disconecting the lambda sensor [under tank] can make such a difference
