Post by harry3014 »

Went into Astle BMW, Laceby nr Grimsby yesterday, and they are selling quite a lot of their clothing range, some quite cheap, but they have some brand new Ststem 5 helmets in at 99 quid, and not just the silly sizes either.

so just thought id share this.

Great lid (and the availability of spare parts...a great plus point). You can remove and clean internal stuff...a giant plus point.

A bit "unstable" in the open position mind, I mean not the firm "lock" feeling in my old (replaced) Shoei Duotec.

I like mine; reasonably quiet, well ventilated, watertight and comfortable. Supposedly not available in white 'cos people might think you're the Bill... When I first got it, it flipped open of its own accord which was interesting for a mo; luckily not going too fast.

BM have always provided reasonable spares backup on their helmets I think, but replacement visors are pricy - £45 or so... Eek... Luckily they seem to last twice as long as the previous sort - I'm on my second winter in mine and saving hard...

minus points >

1. no anti mist gizmo available (other than the questionable inner visor treatment - it doesn't work, sorry BMW).

2. price in Greece : 430 Euros (Oops!).

3. strange "hisssss" when visor open (first "click" = manual "anti mist", town)

PS: of course this is a Schuberth made lid.

I got a pin-lock double glazed visor, as a spare part, from Allan Jefferies BMW. Works well as an anti-mist gizmo. £60 quid though!

Why do cheap bikes never end up that way?

Harry thanks for the 'heads up' on this deal.
Have been looking for a deal on a new lid of a while.
Got one in my size (last one) and they posted it down here for an extra £8.

They've just rang me and told me they've got one left so I've reserved it.

Question:- measuring my forehead it's 58/59 which is the size they have.

Are the system 5 "forgiving" or would this be too tight and I'd be better looking for a larger one????

Any advice welcome..

In general lids (and Sys5) they "settle" over time but I strongly suggest to test it (in my case the next size up was required - "ideal" size toooo tight)

i went for my normal size and got shocking headaches, tight across my forhead so now i;m in a size up and its great

you can afford to go bigger BMW sell new internal pads if it becomes too loose

great lid though!!

i'm on me 3rd

but keeping this one
