I know it was probably a mistake but i coudlnt resist and now my old 1200s is home ans stripped down with damaged bits removed.
The salvage company has done me a favour by chucking away the headlight, clocks and mirrors plus another couple of bits and then theyve scratched the right side of the bike too which was previously untouched, but I have loads of pictures of the bike at the recovery station and thereafter at the salvage place showing the difference. Insurance firm has apologised and will be calling tomorrow with an offer towards the parts etc.

Undecided on what to do yet, however either way Ive either got a lot of very cheap spares or a bike thats going to be prety easy to repair... or a breaker.

I'll watch with interest, what i found when i bought my S in 2000 when talking to a breaker there was zero interest in secondhand spares,as most bikes were still under warranty,so realised that untill there were a decent number out of the said period there would be little demand, with the result i bought a load of secondhand spares for peanuts, haveing tracked down 3 bikes, and still have most of those parts today,my ownly regret is not buying more.
I'd say your going to be in a market of 1!!!so you should be in the same situation, the problem being it ain't one of the great sellers, the hassle being most insurance people look to Motorworks to sell damaged bikes to as they've cornered the market,i got round that by scouring the breakers adds in MCN,but the net has killed a lot of that off,i'd try and track the clocks down at all costs, even if only as proof, bikes with secondhand clocks are interesting to sell

Hi.its just a thought but is the mileage stored in the ECU like on most cars and not in the clocks themselves,so it shouldnt be a problem?

Yes Winger, I took heed when you said it a few weeks ago and I take the point, but Im happy just to get the bike back and if things dont work out I'll have a great spares supply!
Ive found a couple of second hand bits and the minimum hope is to get it running and have a good ride to check things out before deciding what to do.
Its just nice to get the bike back

There'll be one out there,it's just a case of heading it off at the pass so to speak before Motorworks stick their oar in,plus the fact you'll be prepared to pay more than they will, problem being they'll be saying to the insurance,we want e'm all,try a wanted add on e-bay.
