its a larger winter project than anticipated

Post by boxerscott »

Just invested in a digital camera to show just what a twat I am in spannering my cherished boxer cup at Donnington. I will post pics of damage and rebuild as i get on with it. It is worse than first anticipated,(like my ankle - still in pot) The front alloy tubular frame which houses the oil cooler, headlamp unit and fuse holders is bent, the clock unit has broken glazing to the tacho and a sheared mounting post. I have aqquired a set of panels for the bike but these will need re spraying if i decide to do a full road job. Currently i am scouring breakers and ebay for bits and i have come across a main frame for sale on ebay for silly money (my sub frame mounting lugs have sheared off) the thing that concerns me is that there exists no paperwork to support it? What are the legal proceedings for reframing a bike? Could it be off a stolen bike? Pics to follow when i have sussed out the new camera.

Sorry to hear about the damage.

The good news is that I think new subframe lugs can be welded back on.

I believe others here have done it.

Thats right it remains a possibility but a frame for £99 will be more cost effective than having billet cleats made and then having them welded on... cheers chris.

From what I remember hearing, all BMW type 259 frames come without a VIN plate etc. You must remove the old one and rivet it onto new frame!
Think it's all legal!

You are supposed to have your VIN etched onto teh new frame if its a brand new frame, otherwise I thought you were supposed to transfer it? Then its not a BCR?

I had my lugs ally welded and they were perfectly fine. I'd advocate you got your welded and avoisded the heartache.

The clock fairings do bend easily but can be straightened, although they're a pain

Jim Cray in Kent has a jig to straighten the front frame from when he was helping Pidcocks race efforts - postage may be an issue tho'
