Some of you may have picked up reports of this on the news this morning. Here is a link to their report in pdf format.

It's pretty anti-bike in general tone, I'm afraid. The headlines are a call for speed-limiters to be installed on bikes, and for measures to be looked into to reduce the amount of pollution emitted by bikes.
Anyone know who this joker Stephen Plowden is, who is quoted throughout? Seems like a prime candidate for a good kicking.

Yeah, saw it on the news. All members of the Flat Earth Society.
Yet another reason to go and live elsewhere.

I didn't think a gov't could possibly be more fucked up than we have here in Holland, and there you go proving me wrong.

I don't see anything in there about promoting the awareness of motorcyles to other road users, or in improving driver training and testing or even in promoting policing and enforcing of current legislation regarding road use.

Absolutely.
Someone once made a fine analogy for this kind of statement. Something along the lines of rather than fixing a broken leg, just take really strong pain killers.
We're seen by a vast number of people as a social 'disease' which needs to be gotten rid of unfortunately. Always have been, always will.

Q. What is the definition of a camel?
A. A horse designed by a commitee!
sort of sums it all up don't you think?

A perhaps more important question...
Will the banning of all in-car activities (telephone, drinking, smoking, talking, etc) prevent accidents...
Of course not. Not whilst most people drive their potential death machines like supermarket trolleys...(and, in both cases, pondering endlessly which particular margerine to buy this week )...
I'd like a campaign to introduce car drivers to the concept of filtering (the last person to hit me stated that it was illegal in court), and moped drivers to the cocept of filtering...you don't have to try and get past everything all of the time.
Who are the idiots who place their "Baby on board" notices right by their blind spot...can't get a big enough blind spot? Is there really a requirement to stick your rather large SatNav on the dash right in front of you?
Witter, witter, witter...

Reflectiing on yet another particularly frustrating day at work...
Why are we living a blame culture. Why is everthing always someone else's fault. Why doesn't anyone appear to accept responsibility for even their own actions let alone the actions of others...?
Why do new, guaranteed ineffectual, laws have to be drafted in seconds to keep the media happy and protect...a couple of individuals from... themselves?
Who really cares? An small army of "activitists", some newspaper editors, a few journalists, and some career politicians...all of whom, strangely, have a vested interest in keeping each other busy.
What right does ANYONE have to say "why don't you watch where your walking" after bumping in to someone?
Zzzzz....

A new Ministry of Justice?
Have any of these politicians read Orwell?
And now to drive home inappropriately...

He's obviously not into bikes. I wonder how he gets his kicks. Probably hanging from a door with an orange up his arse. Let's just hope he makes a mistake when he is trying to asphyxiate himself.
