Sorry to be so cheesy chaps but here was my holiday transport - well for one day anyway.

I just got back from two weeks in the Western Cape, a stunning place. I wasn’t that keen to go to South Africa initially; the main reason was to see family. But if you have been there you will know that it is an incredibly beautiful country and excellent for UK visitors as eating out and accommodation is literally half what it is here.

There is little traffic outside the city, the petrol is cheap and they have miles of empty (drive on the left) coastal, desert and mountain roads. This with the fantastic scenery and climate make it a real bikers playground. There were loads of bikes around mainly cruisers and big trailies. More GSs than you could shake a Charlie Boorman DVD at! Towards the end of our stay Mrs Woofboxer wanted to spend the day with her aunty, I felt the need for an antidote to the Toyota Corolla hire car so I rented a Harley for the day. Sorry lads, but at around 60 quid for the day (£120 in the UK) it just had to be done! I took myself off up the coast and into the mountains and had a great day pretending I was Easy Rider. As bike rental is very reasonable, the next time we go I know what I’ll be doing – taking off on a GS for few days.

As the Harley; it was a laugh to have a good long go on one, but what a heap of crap to ride!
