On my way back home from the office, more like a waterscooter then a motorbike through a horrendous rain and thunder (I really love that actually), the bike suddenly ceased, like pulling the kill switch .... dead in the water, so to say.

Had the impression it´s kind of electrical, everything worked (lights, ABS, starter engine), but no ignition/spark.

It's in the shed now, drying. I'll try tomorrow if it will fire up. If so, it's caused by water in some electrical wiring somewhere. If not, ..... hm.

Any idea's?

Sounds like no spark...so check kill switch, sidestand switch and maybe hall effect pick-up on front of engine.

Naaah, can't be the sidestand switch: even it if was, it should fire up when in neutral on the sidestand. Can't be the killswitch: if it was, it wouldn't start the fuel pump, nor crank the startermotor.

Think it's something with the ignition electrics. Had the same thing last spring. They checked it all, and replaced a worn out connector and have'nt had any problem .... 'till now. Guess after 133.000 km's the wiring 's become a bit ..... ah worn ... or whatever.

Anyway, yesterday I had to push it, last mile, to get back home. For a guy that really dislikes any kind of excercise and considers any sport (except motorsports) as dangerous and unhealthy, it was quiete an achievement. Made me feel like an old fellow, made my heart pump like a maniak. Maybe I should do more work outs in the gym

My dealer came to pick it up, and drop of the, yes it´s still there, Multistrada, which normally resides in his showroom waiting for a buyer. Every time I look at the thing, I have to admit I still like it. Every time I ride it, it does take some time to get used to it, then have fun with it, but always end up that I would have done that stretch of road faster and more secure on the beemer.

Still, every time the S has some defect, it´s like it´s telling me; "please retire me. Let me go. I've had enough.....'

HJ,. let us know what the dealers dignosis is,.. My 'S' has done exactly the same thing so I'm pottering about on an Old K75 at the moment, .. and you think pushing an 'S' is hard work!!!. Hope it gets fixed soon,

You'll find that the sidestand,neutral,clutch are part of a circuit and if one is giving problems, it can prevent a spark even tho the fuel pump is powering up.
The engine will still crank regardless of any of the switches just as long as the ignition is on.

You're right (again) Bailey! Picked it up from the dealer, he's replaced the sidestand switch... and PRESTO! Back in the showroom again Multistrada!
