Hi Guys...
Was on the dutch bmw sportsbike website...Roloo you know who you are..
and was reading about the software upgrade and the differance it makes and thought i will ask BMW uk if my bike has it already or if i will have it done at a service..
Spoke to a very helpfull chap called Stuart who informed me that they are looking at results in holland and germany and they will make a judgement if and when we will get it over here and said if we do it might be 6-9 months away and possibly a EXTRA CHARGE as its an upgrade....
He Also said that the more people asking will push this along quicker and if you ask Roloo he will tell you we need this..
Anybody else heard this or am i first to mention it...

Cheers Andy

Hi Andy.
What are the benefits of this update?

Hi Paul....
The best person to ask is Roloo as he has had it done...
It seems as if it makes the bike run smoother, no dipps at 5000 - 6000 rpm, no top end but makes the bike feel more powerfull... Test rode a demo at my local dealers (cannons in braintree) which some how has had the update and it makes mine feel as differant as the old 11s is to my new 12s...
Also inthe update is an update for the abs system...that dont bother me as i opted out of that anyway...but why should we have to pay for a short fall on bmw's part in the first place...Agree?????

Cheers Andy

When I asked my dealer (Astle) about updates to my bike -Sept 06 1200S- they told me all relavant updates had been installed. Will ask again when it next goes for service.

…not quite true…

…the dip is still there for a bit ; throttle response just feels much smoother. The bike felt very aggressive around 6000 RPM when you opened the throttle, that 'bang' is gone now…
…it is just as fast as before ; but in a more smoother way…
…it’s hard to explain, but it is very noticeable this new software upload…

…but they should do it for free…

…I, for example, didn’t pay anything…

…oh…you want the new software ?
…OK ; no problem, we can make an appointment…

charge for that it would be a proper piss-take. GS1200's have had upgades over the past couple of years and so should the 1200s owbers (well, their bikes should)

So Roloo...
The big question is...would you have it done again if now given the choice..or leave alone and keep as was ????
Cheers Andy..

Ps ..love the Dutch site...

I bought my R1200S in September and was told it had the latest update. I was under the impression that whenever the bike is in for a service, they check it has the latest software as a matter of course. My one certainly feels better than the one I had a test ride on.

...yep ; would have done it again (even if they would charge me -a bit- for it)...
...the bike feels also smoother in the lower RPM's...

...but ; as far as I know ; the later produced bikes already have the latest software...
...my bike was ordered in May, and delivered in July...

As i said earlier the man from bmw said they are only releasing the latest software in Germany and holland and all the UK bikes have 1 standard software,,my bike is only 4 weeks old and i only enquired to see if i would get the upgrade on my 500 mile service...And the official word from BMW is we will not get the same software as you for atleast 6-9 months,,,
Im of to wsb in the lausitz ring in sept and said to the guy on the phone if its not released here by then i will book my bike in the father land and get it done there...He replied ..i dont blame you...so would i..then he said he will try and help us as much as poss to get the upgrade as soon as poss as he has read the official feed back from mottarad in Germany..
Cheers Andy

Hi Gents

Over the years i've been through a similar thing with my Tiger, fueling upgrades??? there have been over 20 since 99!!,when you take your bike in for a service they'll do e'm for free, and the same if you have a good relationship with your dealer, other wise you'll pay.

But but be carefull, what i've found over the years it moves the problem somewhere else, you may like it,you may not,one of the best ones i've had was number 14 and that was years ago!!!.

I've been dipping my toe in water about a K1200s they have the same problem, were one person has raved about a new fuelling upgrade only for another to poo poo.

I see your going to the Lauszitsring,GP,WSB,BSB is what i (we, my wife and i) do for our holidays,if you you've been to all the other tracks around Europe and if you need to tick the box like we did, then great, but it's like an over grown version of Rockingham,we've been to just about all the tracks in Europe, with a few exceptions that hold major meetings and it's at the bottom by some margin, rideing the roads alongside the Polish boarder are interesting as are the Russian war cemeterys, you'll have to trade that off against the crap journey there and back.

Each to their own of course but in my humble opinion the Sachsenring is the place to go. Massive crowds, great atmosphere, loads of stalls/shops/manufacturers stands. Typical German efficiency i.e loads of food and drink stands reasonably priced and clean toileting facilties (for 100.000 people). And a campsite which is straight off the set of Mad Max III, almost worth the ticket price itself.

If you go, get in one of the stands at the bottom of the waterfall (T11?) its about an hours walk from the entrance but its worth it as its where everybody either bins it (Checa and Bayliss in our case) or tries out braking each other into the next to last corner (the boy Rossi in particular).

We went in 2005 it was absolutely awesome,

Hi Paul... The guy i spoke to at BMW UK was Stuart on 0800777155..He works in the service department... v v v helpfull...

Hi Chris...(winger) Thanks for the advice on the Lauszitsring..
Me and 5 mates go for a long weekend to see the wsb once a year and usually to germany as we love it there..roads ..people...views...history etc etc.. but due to the world cup went to les mans for motogp...we all hated it...spent a few quid on weekend tickets and secure parking and pit walk with BIG ROCK...Held at more than arms length from the pits(10 metres) and just pushed about...Spoke to a few guys who go motogp regular and they said its prity much like that all the time..So been there done that...Back to wsb where we get treated like fans not bank cards...and the brit riders love talking to you when they know youve rode all the way there to see them and cheer them on...
In 2005 we missed out the racing and just toured and spent the day at the nurburgring...great trip... but never been to the Lauszitsring so looking forward to it and seeing local history..but Chris i will agree....BORING RIDE..

Cheers Andy.....Will have to change my avator soon or change name to QUICK RED AND SILVER...no leave as is...

Absolutely correct.

FWIW - on my K1200R, at the annual service (cheap) I specifically asked that no upgrades be done. I am more than happy with version 5. There are differing opinions about 6 and 7. If I change my mind I can always have them done later.
