When To Increase Tyre Pressures

Post by JoeC »

I know each tyre manufacturer is different but at which point if any, for us with slightly more porkier bodies, would you consider a slightly higher tyre pressure (i.e. going to rider & pillion tyre pressures) even though you are riding solo?

FYI ... I am currently using Mich Pilot Road and mainly commute 26 miles a day.

Joe - I always run my tyres at the tyre manufacturer's recommended pressures (ie 36f/42r mostly) whatever I'm doing. Never had a single problem... yet ;)

I used to run mine at 37/38 front and 42 rear on a fully loaded bike (top box and full tank bag).

I increase the pressure by about 2.5% per year and this seems to keep the inflation correct.

Archie -  Same situation here mate.

The 11S white-lines horribly when either tyre gets even slightly down, IME.

Normally run about 34/38ish on pilot roads but I have taken to the visual inspection method of late.

They look alright

Front is almost bald and the rear very square..... consequently the bike handles like a pig and pressure makes little difference at this stage..

New tyres will be acquired in the next week or so following Sleaford winter spruce up..

You'll find that by over inflating the square rear it actually makes the profile slightly rounder...... another top tip brought to you by a money saving courier!
