Contractors? Pah! Scum of the earth.....

Post by Me-109 »

Agh, I've crumbled, I've taken the Queen's shilling (so to speak)!

On returning from my last trip down South I find a letter waiting for me telling me that they've made my position permanent! :)

Not only that but they've given me a grade rise (these things are important) and a chunk of money extra too! :D

So in just less than 18 months I've managed to add about £4K to my income and got paid holidays chucked in to boot - though nigh on 20 years of contracting means I'm likely to not take them until the end of the tax year when someone will force them on me! Also I'm far too busy to take holidays

So from facing the boot near Christmas for about the fifth year in a row I now have that false sense of security provided by staff positions where you never know when the axe may fall :?

Congrats!

I've never been properly full time employed since my first proper job in 1993-94. On the downside my holidays since have been mighty expensive due to lost earnings and I've had about 5 days off sick in the last 5 years....

On the plus side.. wait a minute... what are the plusses?

oh yes I'm my own boss (which makes it all my fault ) might give my self some time off next week...

Look on the bright side, you could now join a union and go on strike!

I went the other way - I'd had staff jobs since 1979 and finally decided to go self-employed. One of the principal reasons was that I could take holidays whenever I liked (yeah, I know - I cancelled Hawes  )

Time will tell
