Hi all,
First post and I'm afraid it is a pretty dull question. Getting my R11 delivered tomorrow and want to get a tank bag. Have read the various threads on the site and have opted for the BMW tank bag. Seen a few on ebay for the RS - do you know if these will fit the S?

Welcome to the site, I doubt if the RS tank bag would fit without major reworking and then would likely be a bit of a 'dogs dinner' I always found the S specific bag to be quite usefull as was a small baglux (The larger baglux I had was a bit clumsy I'm afraid) I'm now using a Famsa Bag (www.windingroads.co.uk)which I find suits my needs perfectly.

Why not go for a baglux cover and tank bag. If you get a Delta bag it slopes down at the back and is excellent on the 'S'. Also the cover protects the tank, which does suffer a lot on the sides, from your knees.

I'll ditto Andrew,the Baglux is by far the most practical,there might be marginaly better bags but the wear and tear the cover saves the body work is a league in front of anything else.

Any idea how much the delta and baglux cover would cost ? I've just been on my first extended trip using the BMW original one and was'nt too impressed. I did'nt want to use the extended bag with the middle part zipped in as the bag was too high and restricted controlling the bike around the handlebar area. The map pocket is also a bit naff although the way the bag fixes to the tank is quite good. If the Baglux stuff is'nt too dear I might sell the BMW one on e-bay.

I have used the delta bag on long journeys (Bruno Moto GP) it is an excellent bag as it slopes at the back and is easy to ride with as it does not stick in your stomach and you can easily see over it.

Have a look on Ebay or ask on the site if anybody has a second hand one.

As regards the tank cover it is a must even if you don't use a tank bag,I have had one for most of my recent bikes.

Ditto Andrew again,have had loads of various tank covers for different bikes but only two bags one for my trailiie and the other that i use on the BM,there years old.

Ditto all the Baglux chappies - I've had a Baglux cover for almost all my recent bikes (yes - even the Harley Streetrod!) and they do the job most admirably. Admittedly not the cheapest around, but they are excellent.

I was very impressed with Peter's Famsa bag when I had sit on his so-equipped S recently; a neat piece of kit. I guess if you wish for anti-scratch protection Baglux would be the way to go though.

Bit of dim question but what do you guys use to protect the tank paintwork from the Baglux tank cover??

I got a brand new, never fitted BCR rep baglix tank cover when I bought the bike but have never had the nerve to fit it for fear of it wearing the tank paint!

Any tips?

What I normally do...

Make sure the tank is spotlessly clean, then wax polish it. Mount the Baglux cover - all the better if it's a warm sunny day as the cover moulds itself better. Obviously make sure the inside of the cover's clean too - I just use the Hoover's extendy hose thing and vacuum it.

Any very slight damage (but I've never seen one do any) caused by mounting the cover will be far, far less than leaving the tank to nature's elements/leathers rubbing etc etc.

What about the sticky back plastic like wot Paul has ?

I think you'll find they are called "tank slappers", not sticky backed plastic.
