How did you get on with your trip to Italy on the S.
It was great. All the normal fun and games of a good holiday in France and Italy. Food and wine in abundence. Plenty of good side trips, Ferrari Museum, Bimota & Ducati factories and great racing. We did have minor issues with the advance tickets but they where easily rectified.
S performed faultlessly! didn't seem to mind the heat, bar for a slightly increased oil consumption as the holiday miles racked up and the level wnt down. That was to be expected though. We did about 2,200 miles and used 3/4 litre of oil. I tried BT020s for the first time and was impressed with their ability and the way they coped with the M'way miles, a fully loaded bike and the heat.
The passengers, on the other hand, where suffering. We tended to enjoy the smaller roads and passes early in the day, but once the sun was well up, some sort of pace was important to keep up the airflow...... It looks like a vented, BMW Rally2 suit might be on the cards.
In some parts of Italy, for instance, the roads down to gorge to Portofino, the GPS seemed to be freaked out by the tiny roads and lanes. It wanted to take up down peoples drives and all sorts. It's just a tool and you've got to treat it that way.
A minor off on a Alp hairpin.
I wasn't paying enough attention and I think I scuffed the pot on the rising camber. A very gentle 10-15mph lowside sheared off a footpeg, some minor scrapes and split to the screen. Sue and i where fine with the same minor bruise and my attention knob would back to max. This was 10 miles from the French border, and our next destination way Gap. A quick trip to the local BMW dealer and the peg was sorted, the rest will be dealt with over the coming weeks.Other than that, and a hotel that lost our passports, we had a complete ball. You just can't beat all this hacking about on bikes in the sun can you...
