Hi,
I´m Håkan from Lund (Sweden) and new on this forum
My bike is a 2004 Boxer Cup Replica II which I bought brand new in april 2004. Only 5 replicas was imported and sold by BMW Sweden... so there was quite a fight to get hold of one...

How many was sold in the UK?

How many Replica II was totally produced? I have seen a production number of 1.249. Right or wrong? Does anyone know?

…BoxerCup series one (the blue/white version) ; first BMW had the idea to stop production after 300, all with a single spark engine. But, apparently, the demand for these bikes was big enough to change BMW’s idea, and they made a ‘few’ more. The abacus stopped at aprox. 1.100 blue/white ones…

Got some information yesterday about the sunken car carrier "Tricolor" which was struck by "Kariba" on december 14, 2002 in the Channel.
A lot of BMW cars was on that ship (over 1.500) AND 117 single spark R1100S Boxer Cup Replicas !!!!
What a waste! R.I.P!!

Whilst there were undoubtedly a number of BMW cars and bikes on that ship I doubt if there were 117 BCRs. Unless the ship was bound for the US with a fair chunk of the years production on board. More likely - if the number of bikes was 117 then that would be across the whole range including a few BCRs.

Mind you, I would love the number of single spark BCRs lost to have been 117, because if total production was only 300, with the ones that have been crashed and written off there will probably not be many more than 100 or so left.

That shipwreck was used quite a few times as a fantastic 'wind up' on anxiously waiting, increasingly impatient customers.

I have just seen a official memo to the UK dealers, dated 20/09/2002.

This model has a limited worldwide production of 1000 units, 750 of which are for export, we have secured 135 units for the GB market

So, 135 for the UK, 250 for Germany, and 300 for the US leaves just 365 for the rest of the world. That is just for the single spark 'Randy Mamola'.

...??...135 + 250 + 300 = 685 - 1000 = 315
...315 - 30 (for Holland) = 285 for the rest of the world...
...it looks like we have a collectors-item..., or is it just a blue/white S, with Randy's signature on it...
...lets wait 20 years (or so) in we'll find it out...

That depends how many other owners you can persuade to throw them down the road and get them written off

Is that not 285 - 117 = 168 Rest of the World?

If they were UK bound then 135 - 117 = not very many indeed!

Were the 117 added back onto the production run to cover the loss?

As I said, I think it is very unlikely that there were 117 BCRs on that ship. I guess it depends on where it was going to. Maybe if it was bound for the US. It was too late for them to be UK ones - I think that the UK ones were already in the country by then.

If they had decided to add them back to the production run it would have taken far too long for them organise it for them to have been produced with the single spark engine. They might have increased the twin spark ones to compensate, but that was a much bigger production run anyway.

From the memo from BMW UK to all the dealers, the official differences of the BCR over the standard 1100S are:

BoxerCup spoiler
Sports suspension
5.5 inch rim
BoxerCup sponsor decals
White Indicator Lenses
Carbon Cylinderhead protectors
Colour Coded Wheels
Colour Code 916 (Pacific Blue/Alpine White)

All the UK bikes came with heated grips ( at extra cost!!) and what BMW UK described as "a very small quantity" were equipped with ABS.

Incidentally, the twin spark ones - apart from having different cylinder head protectors also had different stickers on the bellypan.
