When changeing over to H.I.D. do the kits have high beam and dipped beam, or is it just the dipped? What is the cheapest way to do it?

The dip is a H1 and main beam is a H7 if my memory serves me right. The kits are normally half a car kit (unless you have another S owner who wants the same) and I opted for just the dip HID and uprating (?) the main with a Phillips blue vision bulb. If you do both you've got to find space to mount two ballast boxes (slightly bigger than 20 cigarretes) and it costs twice as much. Can send photes of install if you PM e-mail.

I disconnected mine for the MOT this week and had to check twice that the standard light was working - it looked like a flippin sidelight after the HID.

Well worth the money IMHO

Disconnected!!! you wus!!! when i had mine done it was a hoot,he couldn't make top nor tail of it!! thought better of asking in case he made a prat of himself,but you could see the gears clanking around in his head!!!

When I did mine I clamped the two ballasts together and mounted them under the steering in place of the horn. I moved the horn to somewhere down on the left under the fairing panel.

There is a bloke at work who's just fitted a HID to his 1150 RS. It a single bulb but has a slidey tube over it. This is hooked up to a solenoid which move the tube forward or back to give high and low beams.

With respect to changing both bulbs, if you think the single is good with both it awesome. I found it good enough for 100 plus cruising at night.

How much did it cost?

I think both bulbs came to £350 or something like that. It was a "group buy" on the Pelican board that was shipped to a bloke in the States who then shipped them over here. I sold mine to Peter when I sold the bike. I bought the stuff about 4 years ago so the prices will have changed since then.

If you ride unlit roads at night then it's worth doing, otherwise it's a very expensive pose. The standard headlight on the Fireblade I'm currently riding is about on par with the S with HID's.

I split a kit with Julian from www.hids4u.co.uk just for the low beam bulb. The difference is amazing. I posted a link somwhere on these boards that links it to them via porsche owners club and lets you by a pair for something like £220. I just wish I had bought both. I put a PIA high beam in my H& and against the HID it looks pale and yellow. I ride in London everyday and for night riding people really do notice you and move over.

they are currently 179 plus p & p a pair, they were 199 It says for H1 only but I suspect that if you follow throough the link you could get the H7 for high beam at the same price.

I might get round to fitting mine this weekend as I have to change the
whole lens unit for the MOT.

Are the HIDs MOT friendly or do I need to get the MOT with the std bulb?

OK the HID passed but the bike failed MOT because the beam was pointing too low. The headlight adjuster made it worse.

Problem - the bike is 2 inches (5cm) too high at the back. Shorter paralever & long Ohlins on the back c/w std Ohlins on front is the culprit. Oh well out the with the spanner again tonght

Anyone shimmed the front Ohlins up?

Change the para arm,start fannying about with the front shock it'll steer like a wheel barrow,come on Jules after all the chopping and changeing you did at out house with shocks!!!.

But have to say who doing the mots!!! surely you've been rideing long enough to have your feet under the table with a bike shop so you can just roll up and get one done without any hassle.
