Can anyone tell me
which is the best way to disconnect the O2 sensor i.e.

(1), from the (y) peace.

(2) or from the connector under the fuel tank.

Which way and why.

You can't disconnect it at the Y-piece. Well you could - by cutting the wires All you can do at the y-piece is to unscrew it and replace it with a suitable bolt.

Under the tank is my preferred option.

My advice from previous experience,leave the sensor in(often gets heat welded/rusted in and may shear!Also bolts tend to rattle loose from the vibration) and connector disconnect under tank.

The reason I asked, because I run my bike with 02 sensor disconnected
At the (y)peace put Bolt in its place.



The bike was running spot-on before .
After talking to Darren at motoworks, about the fuel pressure regulator.
I explain to him where I had disconnected o2 sensor is reply was.
To disconnected from underneath tank so while fitted fuel pressu,
regulator I had decided to disconnect o2 sensor from underneath the tank.
Which I did but after disappointing result with regulator I swapped regulator back over but left the O2 sensor disconnected.
The bike still doesn't feel as good as it did before .
So, I was wondering if that is because of the O2 sensor

What are pain to get to
then unscrewed it at the y peace screwed bolt in place .
That used tie rap to old sensor in place on the y peace.
Hopefully, the bike will run better
but too cold to test bike.

So you've reconnected the O2 sensor but left it hanging in the breeze? Wouldn't it do better being screwed in?

No not really.
I do believe the O2 sensor, is there to protect the catalytic converter.
But not haven't the catalytic converter in Its place is no longer needed. I have run the bike like this before for about 5 months.

So what's new? - I hear!

I thought the O2 sensor only worked at low revs AND at low throttle openings. Under those conditions it measured the exhaust gases and tried (if necessary) to persuade the ECU to get as close as possible to a theoretical perfect emmission situation. That would indeed have the secondary effect of protecting the catalytic converter. But it also has another effect apparently ( particularly on R1150RT) of causing surging.

But surely, other than under those circumstances, it cannot alter whatever map is currently in use?

The only way to alter the map ( other than changing the chip - obviously) is to remove or change the cat code plug. Removing it gets to the default (rich) map!!

Incidentally mine runs smoothest with cat code removed, O2 sensor disconnected and 1200GS regulator. That applies whether on standard exhaust (with cat) or Laser (road) system with baffles removed.

If the O2 sensor is connected,then it should screwed in the Y piece....other wise it will be reading the CO contents of the atmosphere!

When I first put the chip in the bike.
When riding in town, the bike was quite jerky.
Up to about 20 mph. Also backfired, quite a lot.
With d accelerated quite bad vibration.

When reading post on a forum about disconnected O2 sensor.
I decided to disconnect my not realising that most people disconnected it.
From under tank. I just unscrewed it at the y peace put Bolt in place.
Just tie rap O2 sensor to a section of the exhaust .
On The first ride out bike fell smoother in traffic. there was no backfiring and less vibration..

I ham no mechanic but I could tell straight away. The bike was running better.
When you talk about surges. I haven quite sure what this mean
I have been riding for 20 years, I am quite confident I could tell.
Whether the bike is running good or bad.
Go easy on me please.
