Looking for some advice on whether to go for the full BMW price hit and buy these things from the local dealer for about £120, or source them elsewhere. Couple of guys on e-bay selling liners but they are unable to confirm if the fit will be correct for the Touring Panniers. Just cant bare the thought of my drawers AND kilt spilling over the Autobahn this September! Does anyone have the proper BMW deal and if so,is it worth the money? Thanks again, Leasky.

I bought the BMW set in good condition off of ebay for £40 in a lovely colour combo of grey with purple trim. They do fit in the touring panniers. As to new price, you are paying for the badge and though soundly made are not worth 120.

If you can't get a set on ebayUse a couple of cheap nylon bags and if you are worried about the panniers opening whilst at speed then bungee one handle across the pillion seat to the other!

Hi I ordered a set of new ones from Journey Designs in the US. They make bespoke ones to fit BMW panniers. At the time I got them for £65 incl. postage (sent a UK cheque). If you do a web search I think you'll find one of the BMW Dealers in the States has them on their web-site. The Company also used to advertise in the BMW Owners Club mag.

I dealt with them direct journeydesigns@swva.net and found them very helpful. Been pleased with my purchase.

They come up on ebay quite frequently but I either missed them or at the time they were going for silly money. Regards Bob

BMW02 bags from Mane Event - £60 delivered to your door. Used mine 3 years on the trot to tour France - just the job. Sold them to my mate as they have plenty of life left in them.

Just been doing a little late night ebay surfing, 1100s for sale with panniers fitted and they look so bloody wide (are they all that big) it must be a nightmare filtering/narrow european steets etc, think i`ll stick to my throwovers which are no wider than me mirrors. might be safer as I get towards middle age and the brain starts to fade.

I got a good deal on the BMW liners when I bought the bike (good in BMW terms anyway). They work well but as already said not worth the list price.
As to the width on the bike with panniers on - it is VERY wide. Had an exciting half hour filtering round the Milan ring road last year - trying to remember they were wider than the mirrors!!

The BMW "City Lids" are great. They are about 2" - 3" narrower than the touring case lids and you can get them through anywhere that hasn't already been whacked by the cylinder heads.

Has anyone tried liners with these?

Spoke to Main Event, thanks to link from Adamski. They offer both sizes; City and Touring, for the same price of £60. They have them in stock but only take cheques, so expect about 10 days for the product to be at your door. The guy was very helpfull and certainly seemed to know what he was on about.

The standard BMW panniers are not that wide. If the mirrors fit the gap the panniers usually follow. That was my logic until I tried filtering in Europe and clipped a car in Italy and a lorry trailer (one of the sticky-out red light arms on the side of the trailer). Now a wee bit more careful of the gaps. Also clipped a few cones in my time and a traffic bollard in Pisa.
