Hiya gents, what sort of performance and driveability gains can be expected if I ditch the cat and fit a y-piece, but keep the standard cans?

Need something neighbour-friendly as I leave at 6am (and I get on with them) and even the standard noise seems quite loud echoing around the courtyard where our garages are.

Both of our bikes have Y pieces and standard cans. They are a little louder but not much. The difference in the drivability has to be felt to be believed.

Sound isn't overly loud, but pleasantly deep, not intrusive at all I'd say.
Does seem to give a bit of extra kick in the drive. Definately worthwhile, I had that setup until I put Staintunes 2 into 2 on and was perfectly happy with it. ( Just couldn't resist the urge to fettle ! )

ok, lets jump on the band wagon, which Y piece is considered the best for fitment, usage (centre stand et cetera) and general feel/dyno run performance????

They are all much the same! Remus/Laser/Seebring are identical. Wunderlich comes in two parts, so easier to fit up, but does not have mount rubber locaters. That means the mount rubbers have to be wired to the frame after fitting otherwise they ride out of their sockets.
I ground off the surplus weld blobs in all the throats, better gas flow. And had it professionally polished, makes future cleaning easier.
Big difference, Wunderlich Lambda probe is in much the same place as the original. Laser et al is further back, needs more wire from the loop under the tank and careful mounting so it wont wear through.
Slightly louder burble, very pleasant. About 2BHP in performance gain. If you really know your bike, you will feel this.
For frightening noise gain, go for full Laser. Still getting used to my new cans. I decided it was worth it though.
If you are worried about it running lean, disconnect the Lambda wire.
Best value for money improvement after improved shocks.

Wunderlich???? there's no such thing,their just a bunch of blaggers.

We have Remus ones with centre stand stops as standard, but I have cut of the rubber stop mounts as they are not positioned very well. They also come in 2 pieces.

OK, I'll just edit my above entry. Seebring/Wunderlich pipe comes in two parts.

And it has a centre stand stop that bolts to the stand, bumps against a frame lug.

ah kay pretty much the same beast then, when I cat. con. finally throws it's guts in the next few thousand miles I'll take a look and see what's on the second hand market at the time

Jumping on bandwagon - Y-piece with standard cans gives biggest bang for buck. No need to do anything with the fueling. Sound is much improved but will not anoy neighbours. Mid range is much improved. I had the Laser. Darren at South London said don't go with Remus as it gives a flat spot but for the life of me I can't see how?

Usual amicable difference of opinion over Y-pieces. Have the Remus one fitted myself but can't say I've ever noticed a flat spot. Pays your money and takes your choice! Regards Bob.

I used the lazer y-piece with the standard can for 12 months,no noise issue just a deeper note and more midrange power+ it looks so much better than that bulky cat box. i ran stardard chip with no ill effects.

Hi you guys, just thought I would join the happy throng with a reply to the 'Y' piece tread, no one has mentioned the Two Brothers item, I got mine about 2 years ago and it fits a treat, sounds friuty and makes the bike go a whole lot better. I payed £150 for it and am well chuffed, it comes up shiny when I clean it, although it has dicoloured a little with time.

Has anyone done the ABSectomy that is poular with our American friends, Just interested, there is nowt wrong with my brakes was just going to start diong my own servicing and wanted to make the bike a bit lighter and maybe do the tank enlargement excersize.

While you're there you could ask them about the S they had in a while back with a melted piston and a non functioning techlusion fueling device. Melt down caused by running far too lean, suprise, suprise. Not sure they had the capabilities/inclination to fix it so they bunged it out to the trade and it will shortly become a test bed for carb conversion and various other engine mods.
