The mrs wants me to put something on the back of the S that she can use as a backrest..... she wants a topbox but they are the work of the ugly devil IMHO so is there anything else you guys would recommend - eg, a sports rack with a backrest or similar?

pics and sources would be handy!

Ideally it should be compatible with BMW panniers that I will eventually get round to buying.....

thanks in advance!

I recommend the work of the ugly devil, namely Givi

These are compatible with the BM panniers... damn ugly though :D

Sounds like you need a Ventura set up.Can be used as seat grab handle or for carrying luggage dependant on your requirements.

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring... it's still sat at the back of the garage with your name on it. :D

I'll hand paint some silver stripes onto the baglux cover for you as well if you like.

Putting a topbox on cuz you want to carry as much junk as Adam when you go on your hols is one thing, haveing one on so your Mrs can lean against it is summat else!!!

I do 99% of my rideing two up,the last thing you want is the person on the back, leaning back!!!!!,exsplain the pros and cons of bikeing,my other half sits on the back with hands on her knees,if things get hairy then she makes a grab for the Ventura as Bailey has mentioned,we work pretty well nower days although it has taken 30 years!!!!

I'd say the best tip, remind her she needs to be leaning forwards.

Ventura system, for holding onto coz the standard grips are an awkward angle. Don't lean back coz the power of an S taking off may deposit pillions on the tarmac........

i'm pretty sure andrew s had a ventura rack on his s when we went to chateau flash last year... i don't know if he is using it now he's got a k1200r?

certainly the ventura rack seems the best bet to me.

Ventura don't recomend using the luggage rack as a backrest but the grab handles are OK. I've still got a pair of Ventura rails for the S in the garage if anybody is interested.
