R1100s fuel pump is loud

Post by Karl Palin »

I've only had the bike a few weeks.
Previous owner advised it was loud for the year he had it.
I've done about 400 miles on it no issues.
Should I be worried, is this a sign the pump could fail?

Cheers.

Yes, your fuel pump is on the way out. It's a time consuming job to replace but within the abilities of most folk.
Definitely worth replacing the fuel filter too while you're in there. Air filter too.

You can get replacement pumps on ebay for around £33 - I'll try and find the link to the one I bought. You'll get a gasket and filters from Motorworks.

There's lots on YouTube which helped me immensely. Care needs to be taken when disconnecting fuel lines and you'll have fun removing all the plastics. Drain the tank as best you can before starting the job.

Good luck.

Looks like fuel pumps are currently reduced in price!

2Twins, thank you for confirmation, video and eBay link.
Too complicated for me. I'll need to find a mechanic. There is an independent BMW specialist in York I'll try them first.

Anyone know what a pump & filter change is likely to cost?

Karl.
