Hi folks,
My R1100S hadnt been run for some time and now I have fitted a De-Cat pipe and of course re-tapped the heads for new bolts today I started her up. Once warmed there was water coming out of the exhausts and when I checked the sight glass the oil is heavily emulsified.
The bike hadnt run except for a short drive in around 4 years.
Do you think best thing is oil/filter change and see if the problem goes away or could it be head gaskets?

The R1100s is not water cooled, so it won't be head Gasket. Water is probabky from internal condensation.

Oil and filter change followed by a thorough run should sort it.

I was quite surprised how much was coming out as I had the complete exhaust system off and removed the cat! But that does me piece of mind, will get an oil filter tool, and filter tomorrow and wont be riding the bike till I have that sight glass clear again.
What is best oil? Semi-synthetic?

Cheapest oil that meets the spec until you know you've cured the problem. Won't hurt to flush everything out and change again after a few runs.

It might be more problematic running it on the stand. Didn't I read somewhere you should not run air cooled bikes on the stand for long periods?
Oil change - go for a run and then check /change oil again ?

Yeah, ride it. Get it properly up to temp. That should burn off any residual moisture. Check it and keep an eye on it, but that should sort it.

Make sure there is enough oil in the engine (actually, check all the oil if it is an unknown bike) then ride it for at least an hour, get out on the by-pass and go to the next town and back. Then change the oil and filter.

I've never had condensation in the sight glass but depending on the weather conditions this sort of thing can happen

It's usually the result of a lot of cold starts / short trips.
Condensation basically.
You'll probably find if you take the rocker covers off, you'll find a milky residue in there too.
This is why constant short trips are no good for an engine.
They need to be allowed to reach optimum running temperature, especially in the colder months.
