Exhaust Removal

Post by RonB58 »

I'm sure this has been covered before but I want to remove the end cans and cat as my de-cat pipe should arrive soon.
How do I remove the rear silencer unit? Do I have to take the whole subframe off or is there an "easier" way? Also how is the cat secured? I see one bolt and two rubber inserts, I'm guessing once I have the rear pipes off it can be slid out?

The rear silencer unit does seem a right faff to get off and no doubt corrosion will add to the difficulty!

Thanks,

Ron

Got it all off, the problem was one of the studs on the RHS had rusted solid inside the cat connection and no amount of drilling would cut it. Brute force with a punch finally got it all seperated.
I did lift the rear subframe to release the exhausts so will add that to my list of things to do with a BMW when you are new to them!
